About This Team: The Magnus and Devon beat, which is known locally as 'Hawtonville', covers quite a large area, with the main borders being Hawton Road, Grange Road and London Road. The beat covers some of the town centre stretching as far as Appleton Gate and also the allotments and industrial area off Bowbridge Road. Magnus and Devon is a largely residential area containing a mixture of council and privately owned properties. Serving the area we have three primary schools, The Magnus secondary school and Newark Hospital which is centrally located. Within the residential areas we also have some rural patches and various play parks. The estate utilises retail premises working within the catering and hospitality industries, such as public houses and off licenses, takeaways and convenience stores. We are also lucky to have a community centre on Cleveland Square which is available for use by residents, and a young people's centre on Windsor Avenue which holds regular events for the youth around the estate. According to the 2001 census results Magnus and Devon have a combined population of 9682 residents with a total of 4166 households. We are happy to say that the crimes rates for this area have decreased by 18% in comparison to those of the same period last year.
