About This Team
Bestwood Village Bestwood Village is a former colliery village bordering the 650-acre Bestwood Country Park. The former Bestwood Colliery headstocks and winding house have been preserved to commemorate Bestwood's mining heritage. The village contains a Post Office/Shop, the "Bestwood Hotel", a community centre and the Bestwood Village Social Club. There is a school, Hawthorne Nursery and Primary School and St. Marks Church. Moor Road is the main road through the village, leading from Papplewick through to Bulwell. Bestwood Village is predominantly surrounded by Bestwood Country Park but it also borders onto farmland which stretches out to Goosedale Lane. Killarney Park is a small community of residential homes, with access only off Mansfield Road (A60) near to the Lakeside Restaurant/ Public House/Gym, the site of the old Bestwood Pumping Station. Linby /Papplewick Linby and Papplewick are two small villages situated on the B6011 Forest and Linby Lane Road between the A60 Mansfield/Nottingham road and A611 Hucknall bypass. The area is mainly bordered by farmland, Newstead Abbey Park and wooded areas. Each village has a pub: The Griffins Head at Papplewick and Horse and Groom at Linby. Papplewick also has a village hall and a school situated just off Main Street at Linby. Each village has its own Church: St. Michaels at Linby and St. James at Papplewick.
