About This Team
Geographical explanation for the villages south of Newark. The Farndon and Elston beat area cover the villages south of Newark. The follow villages are included in the Farndon and elston Beat: Alverton, Cotham. East Stoke,Elston, Farndon, Hawton, Kilvington, Staunton in the Vale, Syerston, Thorpe. The area is in the whole a rural community with Farndon being the most populated village, situated just south of Newark. The area extends to the Rushcliffe Policing area to the south, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire Policing areas to the east. The west is boarded by the River Trent. The A46 trunk road travels through the area, giving access to most of the above villages. This road is currently being up graded and will be a dual carriageway by 2012. With the exception of Farndon all the villages have an active Neighbourhood Watch covering the whole village. Alverton, East Stoke, Elston, Farndon and Kilvington also have active Speed Watch Groups. There is a Police Contact Point within the Memorial Hall, Marsh Lane, Farndon. This is staffed by nine community volunteers between 2pm - 4pm each weekday. There is also a Police Surgery between 4.15pm - 4.45pm each Thursday within the village shop at Elston. Again, staffed by community volunteers. The Safer Neighbourhood Group meets bi-monthly at various locations around the area. Parish Councillors, Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators and other prominent figures within the community attend the meeting. The District Councillor for the area, Mr Ivor Walker, chairs the group. There are two primary schools, one at Farndon and one at Elston. There is also a residential school for children with learning difficulties at Elston. Elston and Farndon also provide a nursery for pre-school children. There are village halls at the majority of the villages offering many activities to residents.
