About This Team
The Redcliffe beat is made up of a wealth of commercial and residential properties situated between the floating harbour with its boundaries at Bristol Bridge, Bedminster Bridge, the old Post Office sorting office at Cattle Market Road and Avon Street. At the heart of the community is St Mary Redcliffe Church which averages 26,000 tourists (apart from congregations) each year. Temple Meads train station saw 6.8 million passengers arrive last year. With four main chain hotels, a casino, the Commonwealth Empire Museum and large events held in the Temple Meads Passenger Shed the area sees visitors from far and wide. The beat includes Bristol's main business quarter at Temple Quay which employs 8,000 staff. The estate occupiers fund the neighbourhood police outpost at Temple Quay square which allows officers to remain on the beat and use a police link computer, thus saving time going back and forth to Trinity Road police station. The occupiers also fund the Redcliffe quarterly newsletter which is distributed in hard copy to every household and business in the area, and this is also made available in electronic format on the force website. Businesses have also supplied two mountain bikes which are used by the Neighbourhood team to cover the ground more quickly. St Mary Redcliffe secondary school and the sixth form college are surrounded by local authority multi story flats. The wealth of businesses benefit by receiving weekly emails from the Neighbourhood team regarding local crime and currently the beat boasts the largest forcewide network of more than 150 buildings signed up to the Ringmaster. One of those businesses is the estate occupier at Temple Quay who forwards the emails on to 8,000 staff. Redcliffe is ever changing. The new development at the old Courage brewery on the counterslip is seeing a project that will include 400 residential flats with cafés and footbridges linking over the water to Castle Park and on Redcliff Street the new family courts are being built. The old Pilkington and Patterson buildings on Redcliff Street are earmarked for development into residential flats, as is the old Post Office sorting office. The beat includes 10 public houses, 26 shops and a mixture of restaurants.
