Questions from Members of the Public

5.1  Question from Alex Wood to the Cabinet Member for Children’s Services:

‘Commissioning funding is to be cut by 8 percent this year and around 25 percent next year. The Single Funding Formula will also result in a decrease in funding. Will the Council ensure that the community nursery sector’s funding, in real terms, remains at least at 2008/9 levels?’

5.2 Question from Anna Hughes to the Cabinet Member for Crime, Sustainability and Customer Services:

‘Hackney Council signed up to 10:10in 2009, and should now be implementing its carbon reduction programme following the baseline year for measuring emissions. Is Hackney Council on target to reach its 10:10commitment, and can the Council provide details of the initiatives in place to achieve this?’

5.3  Question from Glyn Harries (Hackney Alliance to Defend Public Services) to the Mayor:

'Does the Mayor accept that by implementing the Coalition's cuts then Hackney will be in a dreadful position as accepting 20% cuts cannot mean anything else? Will the Mayor be standing up for Hackney by refusing to implement the cuts?'

5.4  Question from Christopher Sills to the Mayor:

‘Would you confirm that from 1st April 2010 Hackney Council has taken over certain Education responsibilities from the Learning and Skills Council for 16 – 19 year olds and what changes has the Council made to make courses more relevant to young people seeking work?’

6.

Questions from Members of the Council

6.1  From Cllr Rick Muir to the Cabinet Member for Crime, Customer Services and Sustainability:

‘What does the Council know about the impact of the spending review on policing in Hackney and what aspects of police work the Met will be prioritising as its budget is slashed over the next three years?’

6.2  From Cllr Philip Glanville to the Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic Games:

Do you agree with me that the re-opening of Murray Grove Post Office is a vital investment in ensuring that local people have access to Post Office and financial services in one of the most deprived wards in the Borough?

6.3 From Cllr Clayeon McKenzie to the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People's Services:

‘What actions have Hackney Youth Services taken in response to the closure of Blue Hut Youth Club in the summer?’

6.4  From Cllr Carole Williams to the Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods:

‘In light of the recent publicity around the ROA Rabbit mural on Hackney Road, could the Cabinet member outline what steps were taken to deal with this case, and what the Council's policy is on street art?’

6.5 From Cllr Wendy Mitchell to the Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods:

‘Can you outline what the Council is doing to ensure that we are ready if there is a repeat of last year’s snow?’

6.6 From Cllr Ned Mulready to the Cabinet Member for Finance:

‘In New River ward half the working age population are not employed and a third of the population are children. There are also a high number of families with 6 or more children. As a result, residents in my ward will be badly hit by the proposed housing benefit weekly cap. What is the Council doing to lobby Government to make them aware of the impact these changes will have on residents in Hackney?’

6.7 From Cllr Daniel Stevens to the Deputy Mayor:

‘What is Hackney Council doing to work with One Housing Group to improve the living conditions of residents of Allen's Gardens Estate in Lordship ward to ensure that they provide residents with safe, warm and decent places to live?’
