CHAIRMAN'S UPDATE

To receive an oral report from the Chairman, highlighting briefly any action taken following the previous meeting of the committee and informing members of any items of note.

5.

RECRUITMENT OF INDEPENDENT MEMBER - UPDATE

5.1       The committee is informed that on 31 March 2010, Council agreed to set up an Appointment Panel for the vacancy of an Independent Member when Rufus Barnes steps down in May 2010.

 

The Panel to comprise of 2 members of the Majority Group, 2 members of the Opposition Group and 2 independent members (Co-opted).

 

5.2       At the last meeting of the Standards Committee held on 3 February 2010, the committee agreed that the advert for the independent member vacancy should be placed in the Enfield magazine and the local free paper with the widest circulation, subject to the Local Regulations regarding independent members advertisements being checked.

 

The committee is informed that the publication dates of the Enfield magazine have been checked and the next magazine will not be issued until June 2010.  Therefore, it will not be possible to use this publication on this occasion.

 

5.3       Both local free papers have approximately the same circulation.

6.

DRAFT OUTLINE ANNUAL REPORT 2009/10

6.1       That members consider and comment on the Standards Committee draft Annual Report 2009/10.

 

6.2       The Committee is asked to delegate to the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the panel the final approval of the Standards Committee Annual Report.

 

6.3       The finalised Annual Report will be submitted to full Council in the new Municipal Year.                                                                     TO FOLLOW

7.

STANDARDS FOR ENGLAND ANNUAL RESPONSE 2010

The committee are asked to note that the Standards for England Annual Response 2010 must be submitted by the 16 April 2010 deadline.

 

A copy of the Standards for England Annual Response 2010 will be circulated to members of the committee under separate cover shortly.

WORK PROGRAMME 2009/10 PDF 22 KB

To note the Standards Committee’s work programme for 2009/10.

9.

DATES OF FUTURE MEETINGS

To note that this is the last public meeting of the Standards Committee during 2009/10.Council will agree the Calendar of Meetings for the new Municipal Year 2010/11 on 26 May 2010.  The dates of future committee meetings will be notified after this date.

10.

ASSESSMENT SUB- COMMITTEE MEETING DATES

The Committee is asked to note the following provisional meeting date for the Assessment Sub Committee during 2009/10.  These meeting dates are provisional, to be used, only if required.  If any of these meetings are not required they will be cancelled and members will be notified:-

 

  • Tuesday 27 April 2010

 

The above dates are included in the Council’s calendar of meetings for 2009/10.

11.

EXCLUSION OF THE PRESS AND PUBLIC

If necessary, to consider passing a resolution under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972 excluding the press and public from the meeting for any items of business moved to part 2 of the agenda on the grounds that they involve the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in those paragraphs of Part 1 of Schedule 12A to the Act (as amended by the Local Government (Access to Information) (Variation) Order 2006).
